How many times have they cried wolf? Let me count the ways…

“Nothing” = All of the previous times they have cried WOLF!

B.1.1.7 UK mutation (12/20)
D614G Global mutation (1/21)
S477N Melbourne mutation (6/20)
E484K South African mutation (2/21)
A222V European mutation (summer 2020)

All were flagged as serious mutations that were going to spread “rapidly” and were antibody resistant.

Take this excerpt from a medical article posted in Feb 2021 –

“The mutation E484K, first identified in the South African SARS-CoV-2 variant, has now been identified in the UK fast-spreading variant, prompting fears the virus is evolving further and could become resistant to vaccines.”

Or this one –

“Another concern is that the South African variant E484K might be able to more efficiently reinfect people who have previously been infected with the original form of the virus.”

Keep an eye on the mutations, that’s your job. But stop running in the opposite direction with your hands in the air and screaming that it’s the end of the world!
